Air enema radiography is a safe and effective alternative to endoscopy or barium enema. Writing in The Lancet (June 22nd), Dr Sven Almer of the Linkoping University Hospital, in Sweden, says: "Air enema is able to image the entire colon with less discomfort to patients, probably less risk, and it can easily be repeated." Dr Almer and his colleagues compared air enema radiology with histological findings in 35 colectomy patients.
