Executive Summary

An autocrine angiogenic vascular prosthesis has been developed by a research team from the Yokohama City University School of Medicine, Japan (JETRO, May 1996). The prosthesis was produced by transplanting cultured bone marrow cells from the recipient onto a polymer prosthesis. The cultured cells prevent immune rejection and proliferate to enable endothelialisation of the inner lumen of the graft.
