Executive Summary
The Valencian health authorities in Spain are to cut their hospital waiting lists by sending patients to private clinics. Treatment of the 34,000 patients who are waiting more than 90 days for a surgical procedure, will cost the authorities an estimated Pta 3,000 million ($24 million). The figure was seen as wholly inadequate by local doctors' unions yet represents less than 1% of the authorities' annual budget.
