Executive Summary
Prob-Lyme, a DNA amplification test for early detection of Borrelia burgdorferi, has been launched by Biocide (Belgium). The kit, comprising three probes, is claimed to be extremely sensitive and specific in detecting the Lyme disease-causative organism in skin, blood, synovial fluid and urine samples. Results are available within two hours. In addition to disease detection, the test can be used to monitor drug treatment.
