Executive Summary
Some 38% of UK health authorities are reckoned to be funding bone densitometry, according to a National Osteoporosis Society survey. Decisions on availability of scanning for osteoporosis are made at local level, UK junior Health Minister John Horam said in a written parliamentary reply. Eight of the 129 authorities were shown in an NHS purchasing survey last year to be rationing osteoporosis screening (see Clinica No 682, p 5).
