Radiometer has launched what it claims is "the fastest blood gas analyser to date", ABL90 Flex. The point-of-care (POC) device can perform a test in 35 seconds, which is "about a third of the time" that other analysers take, the company claims. ABL90 Flex, which is designed for hospital critical care testing, measures 17 parameters, including levels of blood gases, electrolytes and metabolites, using 65μl of blood. The system is already available in France, Denmark, Germany and the UK. It will be launched in the rest of the world, including the US, this year. Radiometer's (Copenhagen, Denmark) previous POC analyser, ABL80 Flex, received 510(k) clearance from the US FDA in April 2008.
