A Norwegian official has rushed to defend his country's language requirements for CE-marked medical devices. They are not, says Jacob Nordan, as onerous as was suggested recently (see Clinica No 775, p 6). Manufacturers may sell products in any language as long as it is stated on the labelling; English is understood by most healthcare professionals. Norwegian must be used in the instructions when the user is the patient or a non-professional user, explained Mr Nordan, a medical devices expert at the Board of Health.
