Executive Summary
Osteoporosis in older people can be detected in levels of cross-linked N-telopeptides (NTX) in urine, according to a paper in the Archives of Internal Medicine (157, 1997). NTX is a new marker of bone resorption and breakdown, currently used only to predict and monitor the benefits of antiresorptive therapy in osteoporosis cases.
