Executive Summary
An independent review of cervical smear testing at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital has been ordered by a UK health minister, Baroness Jay. The hospital admitted that a woman died of the disease after hospital staff failed to notice she had cancer from a smear test. Both the chairman and chief executive of the trust have resigned. Five other women have died of cancer after smear tests at the hospital; 47 other women were found to be clear in tests, but have since been treated for the disease.
