Positron emission tomography (PET) scans for Alzheimer's disease in the live brain

Executive Summary
A radio-labelled agent allows positron emission tomography (PET) to detect reduced acetylcholinesterase activity in the brains of patients with Alzheimer's disease. The technique may be a non-invasive method of monitoring Alzheimer's disease, reports a Japanese study presented in The Lancet (June 21). Alzheimer's disease can currently only be diagnosed after death.
