UK NHS trusts are spending more than £150 million ($240 million) each year on servicing medical equipment. This is almost a third of what the NHS spends on equipment acquisition. Individual trusts spend up to £2 million a year on servicing, although the average is around £500,000, said John Michalski, responsible for maintenance contracts at NHS Supplies.
