Aastrom Biosciences and Cobe are beginning a clinical trial in Marseilles, France, to evaluate the use of Aastrom's cell production system. The system is being used to produce bone marrow stem cells which promote the recovery of white blood cells in breast cancer patients undergoing aggressive multiple-cycle myelosuppressive chemotherapy. Aastrom, based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, is also carrying out US trials to evaluate its system for the same indication.
