Adaptive current tomography screens for breast cancer:

Executive Summary
A noninvasive device for breast cancer screening is being developed by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. The device uses a technique called adaptive current tomography (ACT) which locates tumours by passing electrical current through breast tissue. Tumours "light up" because they conduct electricity four times as easily as healthy breast tissue. The Institute says that ACT has advantages over X-ray imaging which misses as many as 10% of breast tumours. ACT may also provide safe 24-hour monitoring whilst avoiding the risk of radiation exposure, reports the Daily Telegraph (February 2nd).
