Defibrillators reprogrammed to improve safety

Executive Summary
Ventritex is reprogramming 5,605 defibrillators in a worldwide recall after two suspicious deaths. The company believes the failure of an electronic component in its model V-110 and V-112 defibrillators induced lethal tachycardias. Reprogramming will remove antitachycardia pacing, but low-energy cardioversion, high-energy defibrillation and bradycardia pacing capabilities will be left intact.
