Malaysia's Health Ministry is to step up its cervical cancer screening programme with the aim of testing one million women annually from 2000 onwards. Pap smear tests are available at all government and private hospitals in Malaysia, as well as at family planning clinics. Just over 356,000 smear tests were performed last year, compared with 52,000 in 1990, reports Malaysia's New Sunday Times.
