Executive Summary
A surgical robot could soon be performing complex heart surgery through a pencil-sized hole. US firm Computer Motion has formed a clinical development partnership with the Loma Linda University Medical Center to begin trials of the device, called ZEUS Robotic Surgical System. Using robotic arms to hold surgical instruments could reduce the chance of involuntary movement of the instrument during the delicate procedure.
