Trials begin of surgical glue for brain surgery:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

The first patients have been treated with a new type of surgical sealant for preventing cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks during brain surgery. Trials of the glue, called FocalSeal-S and made by US firm Focal, are being conducted at three university medical centres in Switzerland, the Netherlands and France. CSF leaks can cause meningitis and other infections as well as debilitating headaches as the brain settles onto the spinal column after CSF is lost. Lexington, Massachusetts-based Focal said over one million head and spinal surgeries are performed each year.
