A doctor's office test for the herpes virus HSV 2 is nearly as accurate as standard laboratory based test for detecting infection, US researchers have said. Reporting in the journal Herpes, investigators found that the POCkit rapid test, made by Belfast-based Diagnology, had a sensitivity of 96%, specificity of 97% and overall agreement rate of 96% with standard Western Blot analysis. The test is marketed in Europe and is undergoing clinical trials in the US.
