Swedish pharmaceutical company Astra and UK life sciences player Zeneca have announced a merger of equals agreement. This will create a company with a combined 1997 turnover of $15.9 billion and a market capitalisation of $67 billion. Astra Tech, the medical devices division and Zeneca Diagnostics will form part of the deal, although with sales estimated at less than $100 million.
