Patients receive first ever single-lead pacemaker implants

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Patients in Italy and Japan are the first in the world to have been fitted with Cardiac Control Systems' (CCS) Polyshape single-pass pacing lead. The lead senses and stimulates activity in both upper and lower heart chambers, allowing one lead to do the work normally done by two in a standard dual chamber pacemaker. It is suitable for use in most of the 450,000 pacemaker implants made each year and should cut surgery times, says the Palm Coast, Florida-based company.
