Executive Summary
Infra-inguinal percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) and adeno-tonsillectomy are among the themes of the latest reports of the UK NHS's health technology assessment (HTA) programme. The former is a report on the results of a multi-centre randomised controlled trial of the cost-effectiveness of infra-inguinal PTA versus reconstructive surgery for severe limb ischaemia (BASIL); the latter is on the results of the North of England study of tonsillectomy and adeno-tonsillectomy in children (NESSTAC). The NHS HTA programme is funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), with contributions from its Scottish (CSO) and Welsh (WORD) counterparts.
