The Australian government has introduced an Aus$6.2 million ($4 million) package of measures designed to raise awareness of diabetes, monitor the incidence of the disease and target particular diabetes-related illnesses and high-risk groups. Announcing the package, Health Minister Dr Michael Wooldridge said that only about half of the almost 700,000 Australians with diabetes actually know they have the disease.
