US scientists have reported that they have engineered new bladders in vivo in animals which functioned as well as the real thing. Researchers from Boston Children's Hospital and Harvard Medical School told delegates at the American Urological Association in San Diego last week that the bladder, made from a polymer matrix covered in bladder cells, began working successfully after four to six weeks. Clinical trials could begin in two years.
