A simple swab test which tests for the presence of a recently-discovered colorectal cancer gene is being offered to Ashkenazi Jews in the US. Around 6% of the nearly six million Jews in the US carry the mutation, called I1307K (on the APC gene), which doubles the lifetime risk of developing colorectal cancer.
