Norway aims to offer breast cancer screening to every woman aged between 50 and 69 by 2003 as part of a five-year plan to improve the country's cancer care. The government has earmarked funds of NKr2 billion ($260 million) to expand the range of cancer services offered throughout the country. The number of radiotherapy machines at Norwegian hospitals will increase from 22 to 36, centres specialising in hereditary cancers will be set up and projects to assess the value of mass screening for prostate and colorectal cancers will be established.
