This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

The UK government is considering implementing a national screening programme for chlamydia. It will carry out a feasibility study on the programme later this year in two pilot areas. The move comes as part of a drive to stem the increased incidence of the disease, which can cause pelvic inflammation disease which in turn can lead to sterility. A urine-based test to detect the disease will be offered to sexually active women under the age of 25 and older women who have more than one partner in a year. If a women is found to have the disease, her partner will also be offered the test.
