Executive Summary
Researchers at Shinshu University in Japan have found that using a mobile CT scanner to mass screen for lung cancer improves detection rates of the disease by tenfold. They compared the technique with miniature fluorophotography, the conventional method for screening in Japan. Their research, published in the April 25 issue of The Lancet, concluded that CT was more accurate than the conventional method at detecting small cancers. The technique should be considered for routine use, the study said.
