The FDA has cleared a device which is used to sterilise women under local anaesthetic in the doctor's office or clinic. The Molly (minimally invasive laparoscopy) forceps are used to perform tubal sterilisation procedures. Around 700,000 tubal ligations are performed in the US each year and 15 million are performed worldwide.
