Executive Summary
The Italian company Instrumentation Laboratory and Optical Sensors of the US have agreed a seven-year partnership to distribute the Gem SensiCath and Gem OpticalCAM hospital point-of-care diagnostic products and their established line of critical care products. According to the companies, the non-glucose meter POC market was worth $300 million in 1996 and is set to reach $800 million by 2001. The arrangement with Instrumentation does not affect Optical's current arrangements with Hewlett-Packard, Marquette and SpaceLabs, which will continue to sell SensiCath arterial blood gas monitoring.
