Image network promises better head injury care:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Doctors in Ireland have begun using a 24-hour computer network which offers head trauma patients in rural areas specialist advice on their injuries. Doctors based at the country's two trauma centres in Dublin and Cork can read digitised CT and MRI images sent by e-mail from rural clinics. Some 750 images have been sent so far and have been no cases of "user produced failure". A report in the January issue of Neurosurgery concluded that savings using the system could rapidly offset the $17,000 per hospital that the new technology costs.
