Executive Summary
ADAC Laboratories is developing what it says is the first gantry-free gamma camera for nuclear medicine studies. The design of the Skylight system would allow the detectors to be mounted directly into a room, avoiding the need for floor-fixed mechanical gantries and will "provide a level of openness and patient access not currently possible", according to the Milpitas, California-based company at the RSNA conference in Chicago. The detectors can move independently, allowing new procedures such as total body venograms, dual detector body spots, full-brain SPECT and standing total body imaging. The system could also be used in conjunction with other techniques, including computed tomography and ultrasound.
