This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

India is to continue its efforts to stem the rise in HIV prevalence with a further loan of nearly $200 million from the World Bank. The country's national AIDS control organisation will use the money, to be provided over the next five years, to implement strategies for monitoring donor blood and to promote AIDS awareness and prevention. According to Mieko Nishimizu, vice-president of the World Bank's south Asia region: "India is now the country with the largest number of people living with HIV and AIDS in the world".
