Executive Summary
A US clinical study has backed Dade Behring's automated system for measuring platelet function as a reliable and cost-effective tool for detecting certain bleeding disorders, such as von Willebrand disease and aspirin-induced bleeding. The PFA-100 platelet function analyser system, commercially available in the US and Europe since 1997, was effective at detecting platelet dysfunction in patients with von Willebrand disease and produced few false-positive readings. "By reducing false-positives, clinicians can avoid re-testing, often with a time consuming and more expensive procedure," said the Deerfield, Illinois-based company.
