Foot pump patent dispute back in court

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Orthofix International subsidiary Novamedix has re-opened litigation against its competitor Kinetic Concepts in a case that was first launched in 1992. It alleges Kinetic has breached the patents on Novamedix's A-V Impulse, a foot pump used to treat deep vein thrombosis. The Texas Federal Court had delayed the case until the US Patent Office re-examined the patents at Kinetic's request, says Novamedix, of New York. Novamedix says three out of four of its patents have been confirmed valid. It is claiming damages of $100 million from Kinetic.
