Executive Summary
The German cabinet has approved the draft healthcare reform bill which is due to come into force in 2000. The draft bill will be passed to the parliament before the summer break. However, the outcome is uncertain since the ruling social democrat/Green party coalition does not have a majority in the upper house and the opposition CDU/CSU has criticised the health ministry's proposed measures (see Clinica No 860, p 3).
