Spain builds national cancer research centre:

Executive Summary

The Spanish government is increasing its investment in cancer facilities with the construction of a national cancer research centre, to be opened in May 2001. The Carlos III National Centre for Cancer Research will be funded by both private and public money - annual state funding will be at least Pta2 billion ($13 million) - and will be staffed by around 350 scientists. Initial investment in medical technology will total Pta1.5 billion. Research programmes will focus on basic research, applied molecular pathology and experimental cancer therapies.
