Executive Summary
Second-generation thrombosis analysers developed by Akzo Nobel's Organon Teknika division have new software that can detect clotting problems in otherwise normal test results. The MDA II's waveform analysis software can evaluate samples for more than just clotting time, alerting doctors to potentially serious abnormalities, says the Boxtel, Netherlands-based company. The software can detect an atypical waveform that has been found in hard-to-diagnose conditions such as disseminated intravascular coagulation - a serious, often fatal, complication of blood infection.
