Executive Summary
The medical device industry has welcomed new moves by the European Commission to postpone the entry into force of the Units of Measurement Directive for 10 years. The directive will oblige manufacturers to use metric-only labelling on their products. Industry commissioner Martin Bangemann is proposing a new deadline of December 31 2009. If accepted, it will put an end to a long-running battle between the Commission and industry on both sides of the Atlantic and give companies plenty of time to adjust to the new labelling requirements.
