A team of US scientists have discovered a gene that could cause lung cancer to metastasise. Researchers at Duke University Medical Center, in Durham, North Carolina, believe that lung cancer patients who lack one copy of a gene called RRM1, which is located on chromosome 11, are more likely to develop, or already have, metastatic disease. The findings, which need to be confirmed in larger studies, were published in the January edition of Genomics.
