Italy extends cloning ban with some exceptions:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

The Italian health ministry is to extend its 1997 ban on human and animal cloning until June 30. It has, however, made exceptions for transgenic animal research to develop life-saving medicines or safeguard animal species threatened with extinction. The ministry has also extended its 1997 ban on human gametes and embryos pending new legislation. This reflects the European Union's biotech patenting directive banning the use of human embryos for industrial or commercial purposes.
