Executive Summary
A man's age could be a better predictor of prostate cancer outcome than prostate specific antigen (PSA) levels. In a study of 492 men who underwent surgery for prostate cancer, researchers from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore found that the probability of having a curable cancer depended more on age than on increasing PSA level. The study, published in the January issue of the journal Urology, suggested that early detection efforts in younger men could reduce the number of deaths from the disease.
