Executive Summary
Coating a balloon catheter with ceramide could reduce the amount of vascular smooth muscle hyperplasia induced by balloon angioplasty by more than 90%, animal studies carried out in the US suggest. Vascular smooth muscle hyperplasia is one of several factors that contribute to restenosis after percutaneous transluminal balloon angioplasty.
