MicroMed begins US trial for DeBakey heart pump:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

MicroMed Technology has begun a clinical trial of its miniaturised heart pump in the US. The company's DeBakey ventricular assist device was implanted in the first patient in the trial as a bridge to transplant earlier this month. MicroMed of Houston, Texas, is already testing its device, an axial flow pump, in Europe, where 32 patients have been implanted with the product. News of MicroMed's US study comes around two months after the start of a US trial for a competing device - the Jarvik 2000, developed by Robert Jarvik of Jarvik Heart in New York.
