Welch Allyn and Applied Spectral Imaging are to jointly develop portable retinal imaging products for the detection of retinal diseases that may lead to blindness. The companies will use Applied's proprietary SpectraCube spectral imaging technology. The technology separates the spectral content of light reacting with retinal tissue to provide a multi-dimensional data base which can be used for image enhancement and analysis. Migdal Ha'emek, Israel-based Applied Spectral will get product development milestones. Welch Allyn, of Skaneateles Falls, New York, will have marketing rights to products resulting from the deal.
