Executive Summary
France is to restructure its healthcare administration with the creation of regional health councils, according to proposals contained in a cross-party report by the social affairs commission of the French national assembly, reports Les Echos (March 8 2000). The 'partial regionalisation' envisages the amalgamation of healthcare organisations at a regional level into a series of consultative bodies. These would not only co-ordinate and represent the interests of the various parties regionally, but also decentralise healthcare administration, currently considered to be 'highly compartmentalised' at a national level.
