Executive Summary
Early animal studies of a new-generation totally implantable left ventricular assist device (LVAD) have shown promising results. The pulsatile APEX LVAD combines a prototype blood pressure sensing and monitoring system which allows the LVAD pumping rate to be increased or decreased depending on any improvement or reduction of the patient's heart pumping capacity.
