Executive Summary
The UK parliament has voted for a relaxation of the rules that will allow embryonic stem cell research. At the end of an impassioned debate, a majority of over 2 to 1 MPs approved amending the regulations set out under the 1990 Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act to allow research involving so-called "therapeutic cloning" of stem cells taken from embryos of up to 14 days old.
