Italy considers easing rules on radiopharmaceuticals

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Italy is considering relaxing some of the regulations governing the handling of radioactive materials for medical use, in a bid to generate "substantial savings" for the nuclear medical sector, says biomedical and diagnostics industries' association, Assobiomedica. The current system penalises the sector with high transport costs, considered to delay access to diagnosis and treatment and to stifle medical research and development.
