The Czech Republic has become the first European country to introduce legislation bringing in human papilloma virus testing as a primary screening test for the prevention of cervical cancer. The Czech Ministry of Health has decreed that all women aged over 35, and those under 35 who have borderline or low-grade cytology, should be offered primary HPV screening, as part of a national screening programme.
