In an effort to broaden its appeal to industry, the German medical devices industry association (BVMed) has changed its name from Bundesfachverband Medizinprodukteindustrie (Federal Association of the Medical Device Industry in Germany) to Bundesverband Medizintechnologie (German Medical Technology Association). The transition allows the association to retain the BVMed acronym. The decision to change its name was agreed upon at BVMed's general assembly at the end of September in Berlin, but has only now been entered into the official register of associations. Joachim Schmitt, director general of BVMed said: "With the new name and new statutes, BVMed is open for new fields of business and action."
